Using photographs of Cather, Allan created this bust,  answering the following call for artist submissions:

 

"Request to select Artist(s) to create a statue of Willa Cather representing Nebraska in the National Statuary Hall in Washington D.C. The Nebraska Arts Council will judge submissions. Proposals should include a concept, design, budget and 2-foot maquette."
